相信神存在的科學家

牛頓(Isaac Newton, 1642-1662) 牛頓不一定是個真基督徒，但他信有神。他從未公開他私人的宗教信仰，牛頓是一名神學家，他在聖經註釋學上比自然科學產生更多的著作。

牛頓說： 「這最美麗太陽、行星、並彗星的系統，只能從一位有謀略、智慧和能力的權能者發出。」

 

巴斯卡Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) 是人類歷史上最卓越的數學家之一。他說：「任何選擇成為基督徒的人都不會有所損失。若他在死後發現沒有神，而他的信仰也是枉然的，但是他沒有損失什麼。然而，如果神、天堂和地獄都存在，那麼他將可以上天堂，而那些不信的朋友將會在地獄裡損失一切。」

 

愛因斯坦(Albert Einstein) (1879 –1955)

他說：「既然宇宙有這樣美好的協調，我隨著自己有限的人類智力，能認出有神。然而有人卻認為沒有神。但使我非常忿怒的是，他們亂引用我來支持這樣的意見。」* -愛因斯坦(Albert Einstein)

雖然愛因斯坦沒有相信一個「個人的神」，但他也沒有認為自己是一個無神論者。 愛因斯坦說，「當一個人滲入自然的奧祕，他對神的尊重就越大。」*

 

巴斯德(Louis Pasteur, 1822-1895) 被稱為「微生物學之父」(Father of Microbiology)。他說︰「一點點科學使人疏遠神，但是很多科學將他們帶回到神面前。」他沒有看到任何科學與基督教之間的衝突，換句話說，基督教並沒有不符合科學。在巴斯德的科學成就上，他觀察到智慧和設計的證據，而不是隨機和混亂。他又說：「我愈觀察大自然，我對創造者的作為就愈感到驚嘆。」他堅持相信神的創造，並堅持反對達爾文的進化論。因為進化論不符合科學的證據。

 

詹姆斯．辛普森博士Dr. James Y. Simpson (1811-1879) 發現三氯甲烷(chloroform)的麻醉特性，後來全世界都可以運用在醫療上。他說，在發現三氯甲烷之前，他研究的動機是來自創世記「神使亞當沈睡，而造成夏娃」的故事。他也立了婦科醫學(gynecology)的穩固根基，並預測了X光的發現。辛普森博士是皇家醫療學會的主席，也是英國皇后的皇家醫生。這是當時最高的醫療職位。他說：「基督教是真實的，因為它是絕對正確的，因此絕對有生命意義的。」當被問到什麼是他人生最大的發現時，他回答說：「我最大的發現並不是三氯甲烷，乃是發現我是個罪人，而我只能藉著神的恩典得救。若一個人沒有認識耶穌基督，並與祂擁有一個積極和活躍的關係，那麼，這人就錯失了整個人生的意義。」

 

法拉第Michael Faraday (1791-1867) 是個虔誠的基督徒。當時，許多人知道法拉第是個好品格的人。他的單純、樸實、謙卑都是來自他的基督教信仰。在聖經中，法拉第最喜歡的一卷書是約伯記。在他的科學研究中，他刻意想要尋求和明白神創造物的美麗、諧調和組織。他跟約伯一樣，他明白人無法藉著自己的理解來尋見神，惟獨聖經才能夠清楚地啟示神自己。法拉第認為，基督徒可以藉著神的話語來找到方向和引導。當法拉第被憂慮和恐懼困擾時，他不會去任何地方，他會來到藉著禱告來到施恩的寶座前，也會轉向聖經。

 

馬修．莫里Matthew Maury (1806-1873) 。他相信當聖經中的詩篇八章8節提到「海道」(paths in the seas)時，這代表海中一定有道路。他平生致力於繪製大西洋的風向和洋流，並確認海中的確有海道，如同聖經所說的一樣。

 

感想：上个月和珊妮姐妹分享我们做科研的动机，期间查读了一些文章，并由神学角度来探讨做科研的利和冲突。做科研是一种精神去让我们认识更多，不断增长新知识并回馈给社会。很多时候，做科研让我们以逻辑思想一个问题，并相信有根就有底。所以往往我们无法相信一个理念如果没有确实证据那是一个事实。这也为什么多数科学家是无神论者，因为神从哪里来或一些神迹还未被证实。身为一个基督徒，我相信世界，宇宙一切是由神所创的。我们人是被造者，我们有限的，所以很多神行的事不能用我们有限的常理和知识去理解。再出色的一个人，也不能当他所懂得以为可以理解一切。做科研去探讨科学，那是神的恩赐让我们有机会去认识神所造的世界。神要我们做好管理家，当科研的成果能有效地帮助更多人，那将会是神所喜悦及应许的。而不是用我们的知识来反驳神的真理，毕竟我们一生所懂的仅仅是神的无限智慧中的一点点。当然，我们应该时时谦卑，仰望神，并好好利用神的恩典做好神要我们做的事。

After today’s presentation

today’s presentation was fun though i was answer badly and unprofessionally because didn’t expect to have this kind of questions asked. but it’s a good experience at least to know what is the weakness when intends to present data to public or in thesis.

My project is largely based on one vascular triad hypothesis and because we knew that in Malaysian, the acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or in common term as “heart attack” is very common acute disease in Malaysia. In Sarawak General Hospital, each year the circulation problem remains second reason why people admitted to hospital, despite from pregnancy. It’s how dangerous and when it attack a person, the cure doesn’t really can cure. Patients will first taken medication to relieve their chest pain (mostly morphine) and will taken streptokinase to get rid the platelets from the coronary plaque. When the platelet sudden released after activation from a plaque rupture, it can block the artery and therefore the oxygenated blood flow can’t do its work. This we called as myocardial ischemia (deoxygenated blood supply) and leading to myocardial necrosis (heart muscle cell death), and once the heart is malfunction, the rest of the organ also in risk.

It becomes important to prevent such acute disease before it happens. Therefore we’ve the objective to look at the pathogenesis of how this disease occurs from both basic and clinical view.

In fact, during the presentation i was asked is there any study has been done in overseas? I would say Yes because similar studies has carried out everywhere, but we and they are target on different population. Different population different person has different genetic make-up, so it’s worthwhile to do this kind of study (though similar) in our population. Second thing, what this information be useful for clinical? Answer is from the basic science of view, = “find the root cause, prove it”, if we prove our hypothesis that expression patterns is varied among stable heart disease or ACS, we can draw a finding that by targeting on this marker level we can provide better diagnosis for ACS in healthcare or to prove that this marker is useful as golden cardiac marker? (Big picture objective).

Also, i was told that my presentation’s objective is not clear. In fact, i believe most judges they probably don’t realise there is regulating factors in central dogma affect how the protein is synthesised (the marker) when a disease occurs. Interestingly, i found association of inflammation and platelet activation (plaque rupture marker) at transcript level, but not at protein level. How we explain this? that’s long way to go, we should be objective with the current result at this moment.

By targeting on 4 markers can’t really describe the complex pathogenesis of ACS, the only way to see distinctive patterns would be better is to run a microarray.

Ok, just a sharing of overview of what i doing. The findings from this project just a validation if can compare to previous study, but it would be much interesting if i can find out why a young one, no risk factor of smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol, and no blockage of artery can have heart attack????

- No more monopoly, no more implement a new rule and regulation without quality consideration with the rest of your cabinet, ministry, parliament members.

“The Lord by skillful and godly Wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding He has established the heavens.”

- God gives the authority of His chosen one to lead us have better life on this earth home, the leaders of our country should use their knowledge wisely and be understanding, patient, humble to lead this country.

Ecclesiastes. 10:17
“A nation will prosper when its ruler is mature, and its leaders don't party too much.”

Proverbs 29:4
“A leader of good judgment gives stability.”

- Mature is the key word, no more childish act, no more use mouth to attack your own citizens. Every citizen in your country is united as one national, be fair and therefore the country can expand and grow.

“When good people run things, everyone is glad.”
 
- We sincerely hope our leaders are both disciplined, judge using their wisdom and follow God’s words. <In other word, if the leaders are good, He or She, and therefore the party should win the election without much hassles.>



For us as citizens of Malaysia, we should:

Romans 13:1
“Be a good citizen. All governments are under God. Insofar as there is peace and order, it's God's order. So live responsibly as a citizen.”
 
1 Peter 2:13-17
“Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God's emissaries for keeping order. It is God's will that by doing good, you might cure the ignorance of fools... Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.”

- As a citizen, to make this country better, we all have the responsibility. No more breaking the rules, no more critics to other races (if not relevant), be wise when using your words, be humble all the time, be thankful you have safe country as gifted by God

2 Chron. 7:14
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

- No matter what the problems the country face, we should call our Jesus name, seek for forgives, pray for our leaders, and therefore the blessing from God will be delivered to our country on earth.


To all citizens from different races living in this country, always remember:

“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.”
 
Proverbs 10:12
“Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.”

- No matter how critics has been spread across media about the racial issues, have faith and respect, big love is when you don’t tend to revenge and hate, but forgive and accept them.


All Glory to the God, may the God continues guide us and our country with His words.

Short talk

September and October will be a very exciting months, after the Merdeka day, i need to prepare for CRC research day, since going to conduct a very Basic ELISA course for staffs there using my lousy, nerdy presentation skill XD. Probably will participate in their oral presentation contest, heard the winner will get prize cash RM300. On September, will give testimonial and share about my research experience with church mates. Then October, is the scary second microarray training, didn’t put too much hope on it but i pray the workflow can be smooth and no more use up to 17 hours for one experiment then get nothing like last time. And, that will be my 25th birthday, a big possibility will be spent in lab doing microarray, but as soon as i finish the training, will be off to Kota Kinabalu and Tawau, and snorkeling in Mabul and Sipadan islands. This gonna be fun. Now is focus first, going vacation will give me a big boost up (hopefully). =)

Back the Future series

If you’ve time, you got to watch the series of Back to the Future films. Starred by Michael J. Fox and produced by Steven Spielberg, this is one of the best films i watched. The stories weren’t boring, though some scenes repeating (because the characters back to future and same time again, and they have to make sure they won’t change the history or don’t let their own selves to see them), it’s very fun throughout the whole movies. My favourite character in the movie is Doc. Brown who is a scientist that invents the time machine. It ranked #10 of top 100 movies must be watched in a person’s life time. For a movie produced 25 years ago, the quality and the idea about the future world was simply awesome. Recommended to watch, you’ll love it. =)

想增重了

今天又去了古晋节，作了一个免费健康测试。其实，他们是想要借这来推销他们的保健产品。填好表格后，量好身高，后体重。他们的体重计能粗略估计我们的体脂肪，内脏脂肪，身体水分，肌肉量，骨量，一天卡路里和新成代谢年龄。

除了要增加体重之外，其他算还好。以下是结果：

身高：165cm

体重：44kg （依我身高，我必须增重16kg到60kg才标准）

体脂肪: 17.4% （正常）

内脏脂肪：1 （正常指数是女性：2-6，男性：4-8）

身体水分：60.4% （正常指数是女性：50-60，男性：55-70）

肌肉量：34.3%

骨量:2.0 (55kg 以下：正常是1.95）

卡路里：1078

新成代谢年龄：16！

基本上，我是“underweight”，然后几乎没脂肪，应该说我的新成代谢太快了。吃的食物跟营养消化太快，所以我都不会胖。不过，那也对身体不好。现在还是要努力增重，可能以后吃饭要吃快一点。LOL。
