Great Kiwi road trip: Day 2 - Auckland

It was a sunny day, but we were still very tired, suffered from lack of sleep or jet lag (perhaps). We had the breakfast and prepared to go out to have some outdoor activities, yet were left at home when my husband and father-in-law went out to grab our rented car for our great Kiwi road trip. Ended up we had a few hours to rest at home. It was about 2pm then only we stepped out of the house to begin touring around the Auckland.

We went to an apple farm nearby and with a person paid for only 3 dollars, we can pick, taste and try as many apples as possible to get 1 kg of apples home. It was my first experience of picking the apples. From Royal Fuji apples, to Pacific Roses, we spent almost 2 hours there to make sure we try every single apple tree. It was awesome! You never how wasteful we were for the first time, we threw the whole apple after a bite, because you can’t eat the whole apple while there is still many waiting for you to try! LOL.

Many many apples!

We really had fun picking and tasting the apples!

Oh apples, i miss how fresh, juicy and crunchy they were.

On our way back, we noticed that many trees start turning color into yellow and brown. It is a sign of Autumn (though it was already end of Autumn, the Auckland’s weather was much warmer than other part of NZ thus color changing only happen when the temperature was lower in these few days). We were so excited as this was the first time we spotted so colorful trees in our life (and we didn’t expect there is plenty and much pretty to see in South Island).

We stopped by the Auckland’s quay street and her harbour side. It was about 4.30PM and many were start going home after work. We had the Gelato in one of the coffee shop and had some chit chats. It was quite fun to hear my husband’s family to share their old stories, especially about those who once as a kid and now an adult.

Auckland harbor side, people were queue up for ferry ride

So today my mom-in-law showed off her ultimate chef skill to the family, she prepared most dishes for dinner which included a grilled salmon, her famous chicken rice etc. Annie contributed to the steak and my husband did the sushi. It was also coincidence that my mom-in-law’s 50 birthday is on tomorrow, so we had early birthday celebration together with Annie, who brought her own cake to pre-celebrate the birthday before her parents gone for vacation with us.

Annie and her bf - Ameya, and us together with the foods.

A group photo of both families in.
Birthday girls!

As usual, the jet lag still, we had early rest tonight. It was about time to gear up for our great Kiwi road trip tomorrow!
