Thanks for writing in Sophia.
First of all it’s important to examine why you have decided to quit Housemanship. Have you become disillusioned about clinical medicine? What has made you change your mind about being a medical doctor? Is it only now that you realise that’s not your ambition when in fact it is really something else?
In order to practice as a medical doctor in this country, you have to complete recognised housemanship training followed by a period of compulsory service.
Having said that, armed with an MBBS degree, you could pursue other careers. You need not do clinical medicine but if science is your inclination you could pursue a biomedical/laboratory scientific career but you would have to go for higher training (and qualifications) in a scientific field.
There are others who have given up medicine and gone on to become say pharma reps or other related medical fields.
If tech or business is your inclination that is another opportunity. I know of some who have gone on to head successful tech firms.
I’ll let others chip in with examples of job opportunities for MBBS graduates.
Whatever you choose, remember that you have only just graduated and careers and opportunities don’t usually just fall in your lap. You have to work towards your goals and aspirations. If you don’t knock on doors, they won’t open.
Good luck!
