MSc in Cardiology

It might sounds crazy if one has double-master degrees instead to further to PhD level. My boss introduced this program to me, at first i also thought there is impossible for me to take another Master degree while i still struggling hard to complete my current project in UNIMAS. But surprisingly, after i read the course program, i actually quite interested to take this course. It can be done in part time in two years time, and solely coursework based program. I always have the chance to collect patient’s medical information from their medical reports and somehow i find it’s quite interesting to see how Doctor diagnosed the patient using non-invasive cardiac procedures such as MRI, angiogram, Echography, stress test and electrocardiogram. Most of the case reports published are based on interesting findings from these diagnostic tools. And if you realize, any interesting research hypothesis are actually drawn from these case reports first. This make me wanted to understand the diseases thoroughly from views of basic science (what i do now) as well as from clinical side. I believe this can give me more strong background in clinical cardiology though i’m not from medicine field.
To be frank, the research cultures in “Boleh-land” isn’t strong and always caught less attention than other high demanding fields (this is very sad, but is true), i got a silly thought that if i have this clinical background, maybe next time can become cardiology technician as plan B. LOL. Whatever, just a wild idea, it still have to be considered seriously if really want to take second Master degree, money and time measures the most. Can i get some comments from you all? Please! Thanks.

a very good lecturer (my client) always say in boleh-land, we actually have everything: equipment, machine, reagent, kit BUT cant find a committed student to carry on the project. he was quit 心痛 when majority of his student have no initaitive to start of/carry on their work. most of them are happy go lucky type of quality like me..haha

cardiology technician, sure in demand for future, coz Obesity in malaysia keep raising :p

for me if you interest is there, then u found urself still able to crop up the time to do reading/writing/ and lab work, there is no restriction in term of money/family issue then support u go ahead :)

a good n helpful lecturer is not easy to find also yea, so value it,if he/she is good, then good for u loh.

but always rmb,欲速则不达,its still your choice weather or not to proceed for 2 master 1 time.

hope tis will help

tan sri,

we know there is plenty of good lecturers, students and scientists in boleh-land. We have 5-star hardware and we've vision to be competitive like the rest of the world and positive. Besides there is happy go lucky type, there is more students that have the commitment and passions in doing their works. Somehow these commitments are influenced by the enviroment. For example, a researcher trainer in one local research centre only paid RM900 per month for 9 months at least before they promoted to research officer. Long thesis marking process makes these students can't graduate in time, but we need money for daily spend (food and insurance), how could these people survive? They have the passion and once committed to do something they really interest on, but the cultures in this country, the government only invest in high demanding industry for example, politician, construstion and medicines. We’re still quite a far from become a knowledge-based economy country. I love this country although there is unfair, I will be very honor if my research work is recognized by overseas and I hope my country will proud of me if the research is done there. However, how many scientists born in Malaysia when they produced something recognized by overseas were yet to be recognized by our own government?? There is a lot and I very sad about this! In RM (rancangan Malaysia) 10, research is the first thing to be excluded to cut cost. Every year, government make fun of the education system, implement this and that, but who suffers? Is student! How could student not choose to go overseas to have better chance.
But your comments are very valuable. It’s always be how we seek our opportunity despite all these “harsh” environment and also how we tolerate it.

well said from tan sri and puan wen ni on R&D culture in Msia, we need young generations who know the root of cause.

About MSc programme, I suggest you to draw up a timetable and a plan illustrate your commitments to family, current research based master course, social, leisure, future taught master programme. Then, see how much time, energy you manage to allocate for new master course.

I believe you know it well that research is not 9-5 jobs, sometime obstacles/ unforeseen delay hampered your progress.

Part-time course need greater commitment and courage, so think twice. find out how much support available for part-time VS full time students.

In addition, taught programme means there'll be lecture, lesson, reading take place. These may not convenient for lengthy research works.

From academic point of view, look at the syllabus, training opportunity: hardware and software avaible, hands on practice/training opportunities, i.e. experiment and source alike. Are all these available?

what about the career prospect? and also passing rate of this course. Any seniors done this course before, any other students taking dual masters at the same? ask around, get advice..these will give insightful info.

Link this taught master to future research needs, if you think worth taking it, then go ahead
