Compilation photos: Sarawak flood Jan 2009

Finally, the rains stopped! No more flooding, no more flood alert on radio! Great news ever!

The following photos were obtained from other blogs and forums, do check it out how severe of the flood this time. The flood has hit the bau district, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri. Following photos were taken mostly in Bau and Kuching areas.

Kuching was almost like a water city. The places where usually not flooded were flooded this time. Kuching's waterfront, Gambier street, Indian street, Pandungan street all flooded. On 12th Jan afternoon, the flood level once rised up to a level that a big bridge in Batu Kawa was flooded all over.

This flood has brought out many negative impacts to all affected Sarawak residents. Many houses, especially those single storey terrace house were the most severe affected. For chinese family, their houses were totally in a mess and that happened in 2 weeks before the Chinese New Year. These people certainly don't have mood for the coming CNY. The victims lost their houses, need to spend more to buy new electrical appliances such as the refridgerator, tv or washing machines (which were too heavy to be moved when the flood came) and clear all the rubbishes flown into their houses. It's not joking, these houses have become no sale value, and hard to be sold even the owners would like to.

After all, this flood was a disaster. Luckily it was all over. Hope it wouldn't be happened during CNY.
